A Nemzeti Színház épülete Budapest 9. kerületében, Ferencvárosban épült fel.
2002-ben avatták fel.
A Nemzeti Színház 1837–1908 között (1840-ig Pesti Magyar Színház néven) az Astoria Szállóval szemben működött. Azt küvetően a társulat ideiglenesnek szánt épületekbe, előbb a Blaha Lujza térre (1908–1964), majd kisebb kitérő után a Hevesi Sándor téri épületbe került 1966-tól. A Nemzeti Színház melletti parkban egész alakos szobrot kapott: Gobbi Hilda, Kiss Manyi, Ruttkai Éva, Latabár Kálmán, Tímár József, Major Tamás, Sinkovits Imre, Soós Imre, Bessenyei Ferenc és legutóbb Schwajda György. A Blaha Lujza téri régi Nemzeti Színház főhomlokzatának sziluettje a vízfelületbe fekszik.

The National Theatre is the main theatre of Budapest, opening originally in 1837. Since then it operated at several locations, including the building at the Kerepesi Street, the People's Theatre at the Blaha Lujza Square and its longest temporary home was at Hevesi Sándor Square. The permanent, current home, the new National Theatre opened here in 2002. The National Theatre is located within the Millennium Quarter (Culture Center) of Budapest, between Petőfi and Lágymányosi bridges, in Budapest 9. district. Statues portraying famous Hungarian actors and actresses are seen in the park surrounding the theatre building. |
